I already have an acceptable amount of book smarts, I graduated from college already, I'm not super smart or anything like that, and of course I'm always open to more knowledge. But my lack of street smarts, applied smarts, real world smarts, social skills, really outshines my intelligence, and paralyses me, I'm kind of useless.

Growing up with nothing but book smarts and then moving to a city for work, I would actually pick street smarts. Book smarts are great until you get out in the real world and need to conduct yourself among others who don't have book smarts.

I have both. Grew up in the ghetto but graduated with a mechanical engineering degree. To me, street smarts equates to common sense: my fellow classmates who were exceptionally brilliant, but did not have street smarts, were also lacking common sense...Just my humble opinion though.

Street smarts does actually exist and does have its uses, such as living in a difficult area where you rely on what you know in the world around you, people's personalities, slang, etc. Unfortunately, in order to rise above such a life, book smarts is a requirement.
