Freedom of speech require responsability and respect towards other cultures and people. So when irresponsible, ignorant, religious fanatics ( right-wing christians) make an inflammatory, hatefull film about another religion (Islam), the gov.t need to intevene in order to prevent more dramatic events. Or the Us Embassy victims are not sensless deaths enough? Plus because of that film, also non-american embassies are been attacked, (fx Germany embassy in Sudan). Your 'freedom of speech' and then 'we can say whatever we want' attitude does justify all the mess and death toll of the last few days? It was worth it? The world don't need more conflicts, expecially because of religion, expecially in that region of the world, already extremely unstable. We don't need another war. :/

There's difference between someone happily practicing Islam because they believe in it, and an extremist/terrorist government misinterpreting the religion and causing the people in the country to suffer for it. Maybe an anti-corruption, pro-personal-freedom video would have been better. (I haven't watched the video to see how negative it was, just basing this on the question and replies.)

I agree, but if an islamic would have done the same kind of extremist propagnada movie about Jesus, how would you think the right wing american evangelicals would have react? Violence call for violence, in this case extreme violence from words inflammed several countries.

we dont really have freedom of speech in america. we are just as sheltered to world events (if not more so) as the middle east. lets all try to worry more about learning the truth and less about calling out other countries that are just going through the same quest for liberty that we are!

We have more Freedom of Speech. You know you do when you make an Anti-Islamic film, the White House asks for it to be banned, and everyone rejects. Talk about freedom of speech and it applies to most 1st world nations. By no means are you more sheltered in the US, if so you should take a trip to the Middle East. And this has nothing to do with Liberty, it has to do with people being mad over a film and wanting a country and the West to apologize. Thats the exact opposite. Also keep in mind these crowds really arent that big, barely a 1000 people of each protest in a nation are giving millions a bad name.

Trust me this film is just the tip of the ice burg as far a current world politics are concerned. The american government loves to use smoke and mirrors tactics like this to keep the masses misinformed and scared.

The film is stupid, but the reaction is just another photo in the "Illogicality of Religion" book currently being Ghost written by the Middle East.
