BorogoveLM says The nation still holds the colonies it owned before the revolution. Naturally, many of the native inhabitants, the vast majority of the colonies' population, want independence. However, the native people have a long tradition of slavery. Some argue that it would be contrary to the ideals of the revolution to withdraw from the colonies, as they will surely continue to practice slavery even if it were illegal without enforcement from abroad. Others argue that the revolution's primary ideal was one of self-rule, and thus the colonies should be freed.
