Do you believe in (By matman4190 MaleGold MedalGold TrophySuper StarGold Crown 4 years ago)

matman4190 says A)Do you believe that you alone make your decisions? Do you believe everyone has the ability to do as they choose? Do we have experience and then weigh options and make a choice based on what we wish to do at that moment? B) Do you believe that the brain is the source of our actions, thoughts and experiences? [Ex. 1) Do you think genetically identical twins with the same epigenetics and environments AND EXPERIENCES would end up with different behaviors? 2) Do you blame a tiger for eating a goat or do you feel that they didn't know any better and refrain from assigning blame for these actions? What about an assembly line robot whose programming periodically makes it spin around and accidentally hit people in the head killing them? Do you feel that psychopathic/mentally handicapped individuals are similar to tigers/robots and because of this disability/programming shouldn't be blamed (maybe incarcerated or 'fixed/cured' because they are a danger but not BLAMED) do you feel this logic extends to any person who does wrong because a 'NORMAL' brain wouldn't do that if the programming were right?) 3)Do you read the research on brain stimulation and drugs being able to change what people feel, believe or do (and the work showing that the brain initiates actions before a person reports having consciously made a decision to take the action) think that this means that our brains are our programming and we are just an input output machine? Do you believe that the universe as a whole is predetermined? [Ex. 1) an omniscient god is incompatible with events being random since whatever happens/ whatever action you take God knew that it would 2)particle physics allows for prediction of every event in a system it follows that a powerful enough computer simulating every atom would be able to do the same for the whole universe. 3)Quantum mechanics means that anything that can happen has happened and simultaneously exists. Observing the event (living it) collapses the waveform into the most stable configuration which is a predictable value given knowledge of the paramaters]. I tried to include summaries of each side but while A is pretty straight forward the people who agree with B are all over the place and have a million different theories and explanations for why they make this huge declaration about the way the world works.
